2001 VGA TOUR BEGINS TODAY
AS PLAYERS COMPETE FOR A SHARE OF $75,000 IN PRIZE
MONEY
Microsoft announced
that the 2001 Virtual Golf Association (VGA) Tour, the world's
largest and most comprehensive golf tournament on the Internet,
begins today with the Links American Open. The opening event takes place on the
Princeville Resort course, one of Hawaii's most challenging golf courses.
This year, VGA
Tour participants will be comprised
of cyber-golfers from 12 different countries, and
will be chipping away for a
share of over $75,000 in prize money. All PC golfers who use
Links 2001, Microsoft's award winning golf simulation for the PC, are eligible
to join.
It's
not too late for those who are interested in taking a run at the
leaderboard. With just a few clicks of the mouse, golfers who
visit www.linkstour.zone.com can
be part of the most realistic golf tour on the Internet.
Registration will continue
throughout the VGA Tour.
Over 12,000 golfers participated
in Microsoft's inaugural Virtual Golf Association Tour. Last year's
champion Paul Willey took home the VGA Tour crown in Hawaii along with over
$100,000 in tournament winnings. Joe Montana and Russ Francis were on
hand to present the grand prize.
The 2001 Virtual Golf
Association Tour includes three preliminary
major tournaments, a semi-final for the top 70 on the money board,
and a final event in a location to be determined, which will pit the top four
players against each other head to head.
